Gremlin on the Podium
The sweet smell.... of laurels

This recent win was in a "curtain raiser" for the 2008 TT Races festival. Gremlin's race was for 1000cc Classic Superbikes and was held on the Billown public roads course. The bike he rode was his Harris F1/Suzuki XR69 1000cc.

Gremlin's fastest speed recorded in the race was in excess of 180mph. From qualifying in a poor 9th place, he made an even poorer start! However, after a few laps of the 9 lap race, he was making steady progress through the field. Although steadily gaining in speed and overtaking other riders, this was helped by the customary (for The Isle of Man) mechanical failures of other competitors machines and some other unfortunates who crashed.

By the final lap, Gremlin was lying in second place, behind up and coming TT star Guy Martin who is a regular rider in British Superbike for the Hydrex Honda Team.

On the last lap, approximately 2 miles from the finishing line, Guy crashed heavily but fortunately without injury. This left Gremlin in the lead with a gap of 5 seconds to the second place rider and he managed to maintain the lead to the flag.

The win may have contained a large element of luck (isn't that often the case in motorsport, though?) Anyway, to win, you have to finish the race and reach the chequered flag.
